A Vegetarian Cafe in the Beef Capital of Australia

Winter in the city that slumbers on the Tropic of Capricorn. It's lunchtime, you're tired, and sick of hamburgers or the ubiquitous chicken caesar salad for lunch. It's time for a change, something unique and different. Maybe it's the Aquarian in your tenth house but you seek a new lunchtime adventure. So, why not try Gnomes in William Street, Rockhampton? Come and enjoy delicious vegetarian meals in the haven of the courtyard garden, by the fountain or under the mango tree. There's no guilt about the environmental impact of livestock methane here, because there's no meat. But it's not lentils and veggie stew in mandatory hemp hairshirts either. Gnomes' believe that vegetarian food is equally as delicious and enticing as non-vegetarian food and that you can enjoy ethical eating as a sensual experience.

You can enjoy one of three quiches; swiss cheese and asparagus, mushroom and avocado or leek and potato, served with or without Gnomes' standard crisp, fresh, comprehensive salad.

There is a gluten free pumpkin, feta and sage frittata and gluten free vegetarian sausage rolls and options for vegans, such as; warming vegetable soup, chick pea curry and rice and freshly made guacamole or hoummus, full of organic chick peas, made when you order, and served with crudites, corn chips and/or toasted pita bread.

There is delicious coffee, including Gnomes' signature "lava-lamp" cafe lattes, and a wonderful mouth-watering array of homemade cakes, with gluten-free options always on the menu.

Take the time to enjoy your lunch at a leisurely pace. Gnomes tries to use organic produce where possible, and operates from a health conscious and holistic platform, so no microwaves are used. It'll take a few minutes for your lunch to warm up but sit by the fire or the fountain and relax, let the green of the garden soak into your senses and leave all your worries behind for a moment. Unwind, you've worked hard, you deserve it.

After lunch, potter around "Yester-years" the antique and vintage furniture and furnishings shop that shares the same building as Gnomes. Find a gift for someone special or that piece of furniture you know has been missing from your dining room.

If you work, make a booking on 07 4927 2466 indicating what, when and how many and your lunch will be ready when you arrive.

Gnomes caters either at the cafe or off-site. Email your requirements and dates to gnomescafe@gmail.com
